GETTING STARTED

The first step is determining what it is you want to have accomplished and what the cost for the work will be.

My name is Ron Hess.  Every Photo Repair project that passes through Memories Restored is assessed by me personally, through the entire process.  Old photographs have been something special to me all of my life.  I have been working with Photoshop and image restoration for over 12 years.  I will personally be involved in quoting the job and approving the final results.  You are encouraged to contact me and go over the scope of the work expected.  Our interaction is an important part of the process.

Types of Restoration/Alteration available:

retouching blemished photographs
removing scratches
repairing torn photos
removal of distractions including backgrounds
color/exposure correction
removal of dirt, stains or mold damage
restoring fading photos
resizing photos
water, smoke and fire damage
remove or add a person.

If you can provide a low resolution (200 - 300 dpi) image of the target photo it will help greatly in generating a realistic quote.  If you don't have a scanner, most Photo Centers or Office Supply Stores can scan a photo and transfer the image to a CD, which can then be emailed.  It is best if the image is scanned without any software enhancements, including sharpening, exposure correction, red eye reduction or size manipulation.  Feel free to contact me for any necessary guidance.  In short, give me the chance to see what is there.  An attached email or follow up phone call describing what you want done is an important facet of the process.

The second segment of the process is to transfer the image to a digital format.  I prefer to scan the target photos myself.  If you want to scan it yourself and send the image as opposed to sending the original, I will meet your wishes; however, it will probably be best to send it on a CD.  I work from scanned images of 1200 DPI or higher, resulting in larger file sizes. Often, depending on your Internet provider, a high resolution restored photo cannot be emailed because of its size.  This is the reason for sending it on a CD.  The same recommendations for scanning a high resolution image as a low resolution image apply.  It is best if the image is scanned without any software enhancements.

I would caution that if the photograph is in a frame and protected by glass it is best not to attempt to remove the print.  Further damage will often occur.  Send the image with the frame, appropriately wrapped.  Examples of appropriate wrappings include stiff cardboard across the glass, and wrapping the frame and cardboard in bubble wrap.  A different method will be used to capture the image to a digital format from a glass fronted photograph.  Memories Restored will not be held responsible if damage results during inbound shipping.

If you choose to send the original, it will be returned with the restored photo and a CD containing the high resolution image used to create the restored photo.  Prior to final payment for the work and receiving the finished product, a password protected low resolution image of the restoration will be posted on the website.  You will be given the opportunity to assess the work and give final approval.  Please note that on orders quoted in excess of $150.00 a 50% deposit will be expected before work commences.  All payments can be paid through PayPal, or most Major Credit cards

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me to discuss the particulars.

Shipping and Handling Costs for the return of the original photos, restored photos, and a CD with the image used to print the restored photo will be returned in a protective photo mailer.  The charge for this is $6.00.  There will be no extra charge for multiple photos.

If the original photo was sent in a frame with glass, requiring extra padding and precaution, shipping costs will be modified accordingly.
